Third Red Hook Crit bigger, richer, tougher

By Daniel McMahon

RedHookCriterium logoThe third annual Red Hook Criterium will take place Saturday night,  March 20, in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

The race starts at 11 p.m., with registration from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. the night of the event.

Track bikes are required.

According to race founder Dave Trimble, the event has grown with the help of more prestigious sponsors and bigger prizes.

“The talent in the field gets deeper every year,” Trimble said. “And with the past two winners of the race later going on to turn pro, this year should be even more competitive. Expect a very fast, very hard race.”

The 2010 Red Hook Criterium is an unsanctioned bicycle race through a desolate post-industrial area of Brooklyn. Track bikes are mandatory for the riders and the field consists of semi-professional ‘roadies’, bike messengers, and urban cyclists. The first person to cross the finish line at the completion of 20 laps will take home the famed cobblestone trophy…
