Boogie Nights: Fixed-gear race series returns to Prospect Park
Kissena Cycling Club member Al Barouh is running a Friday-night race series in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.
“Boogie Nights” starts is scheduled to run from Oct. 2 to Oct. 30. Riders are asked to meet at 9 p.m. at the Grand Army Plaza entrance of the park.
“The event is a strictly fixed-gear series that blends track and road racing into one incredibly fun yet challenging package,” Barouh said.
Each week the race format will be modeled on races that can be found on the track: scratch, points, match sprint, and team time trial. Points will be given each night, and at the final race the overall winners will be awarded.
This year there will be two fields: the A field (very fast) and the B field (not as fast).
The entry fee is $5.
Said Barough: “There will be numerous sponsors throwing in some fantastic prizes to the podium finishers.”
The race flyer includes Brooklyn Bicycles, Ride Brooklyn, and Babeland as sponsors.
Barough said he expected “a good turnout of some serious roadies, trackies, and urban riders.”
Helmets are mandatory, and suggestions on gear inches range from high 70s to mid 80s.
Barough added that he’d probably be running a 49×16 most races.

These races are absolutely great!
Rode last week, missed the first race, but I still had a blast.
Handouts at the end of the races are great also…
Would be cool if we had more spectators
