New York phenom Evelyn Stevens confirms at World Championships
I just can’t get enough of the Evelyn Stevens story.
She started racing in July 2008.
Yesterday she finished 15th in the women’s World Championship road race.
She wasn’t pack fodder either. Stevens worked hard, chasing down breaks for team captain Armstrong and helping to whittle down the field with a blistering pace over the course’s two punishing climbs.
Her story reminds me of Neil Bezdek’s blazing trail to the top ranks. Less than two years ago he started racing as a Cat. 5 and is now battling it out with top riders in criteriums all over the place as a Cat. 1.
